While most institutions have systems to track and report basic descriptive information (e.g., counts and percentages), less attention is typically paid to a student’s precise (and often complex) reason(s) for withdrawal. Building upon the results of prior empirical work, this session provides and demonstrates the use of both qualitative and quantitative analytics to process large volumes of raw, unstructured (open) text as extracted from a student withdrawals (text) database. The session focuses on how these text data can be qualitatively structured and then transformed numerically for subsequent quantitative analyses using appropriate multivariate procedures. |
